Location and How to Get There
GEN Korean BBQ House is located in Building J, SM by the Bay, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. You can parked in the mall and then walk towards the restaurant. It is near the MOA Eye and overlooking the Manila Bay.
We arrived at the restaurant around 6:30PM, early enough that we have the option to choose our seat. We opted for the couch near the window overlooking the Manila Bay. It was almost sunset, so we were grilling with a beautiful sunset in our background.
The receptionist lead us to our table, then introduced us the two waiters to serve us. Yes, they assigned two waiters for us. They gave us the menu immediately. While browsing the menu, they already served us the sidings like kimchi, green salads and mashed potato.
Dining is only limited to two hours and you are only allowed maximum of 4 items to grill in every order, so we asked immediately for their best sellers. We order for one premium steak, samgyupsal, shrimp and premium chadol.
Our first batch of meat now grilling.
The waiters volunteered to grill our meats while we devour ourselves with the sides they served. I instructed the waiter to have our steak medium only, which he did perfectly. The steak was perfectly cooked and melts in our mouth,
The shrimp is also fresh with no itchy feeling when you eat it. The premium chodol was also delicious. The samgyumpsal though is on the thick and fatty side which we find it hard to grill.
While eating the steak, they offered us rice which they said is free and considered as sides. We asked for two cups and they give us immediately. However, the rice was dry and tastes like a low quality rice.
We finished our first batch of meat so we ordered again for the next batch. We ordered again premium steak, Hawaiian bacon, soondooboo and cajun calamari. Our second batch of orders did not come immediately. It seems the waiters are having troubles in the tablet they use for taking orders.
One order of premium steak, larger than a pineapple slice.
When the second batch of our orders arrived, they told us that we have the option to request for a half order. They also told us that they will charge for any leftovers. I think they under estimated my capabilities in eat all you can restaurants. Haha.
We've been eating for an hour when we decided to order some drinks. We opted for a pineapple juice, which I think balances the calories we have taken. However, the drink they served is just powdered juice. I was expecting a natural fruit juice since this is an upscale restaurant.
Every now and then, the waiters are asking for if we have any concerns on the food, the manager also came by to ask about our experience. I told him my concern about the rice, and they gladly change it to a new one. But still, the quality of the rice is not great.
For our last order, we again ask for a premium steak and Hawaiian steak. I really love the steak they served and you have the option on how do you want your steak. Asking for refills on our drinks also has no problem. Also for the side dishes, they are more willing to refill.
We asked for the bill before the two hour limit passed by. They confirmed to us if we are done ordering and we said yes. We are really full at that moment and we just asked for an additional refill of drinks.
We went home, with full stomach and with satisfied cravings for Korean BBQ. I cannot believed I fished three premium steak that night.
Our bill for the delightful dinner.
Happy Tummy, Happy Customers
GEN Korean BBQ House is worth a visit. If you are fond of Korean BBQ and grill, this place is for you. Indulge with their selection of grill items, specially their premium steak. It may be a bit pricey as compared with other Korean BBQ houses in the metro, but you will be served with what you paid for, quality food and great ambience.
The food was great. Selection is just enough to satisfy your cravings. You need to strategize though when taking orders as you only have two hours to grill and eat. I suggest you start with their premium steak, then try their other menu items later.
They need some improvements on their servers as it seems they are not trained well about the oder taking and recommending something in the menu. A little more lighting inside the restaurant would also be nice. And improvement on the rice quality and juice drinks would also be a great idea.
Overall, GEN Korean BBQ House is something worth to try. Bring your family and friends and enjoy great quality of Korean BBQ. We'll definitely visit the restaurant soon. I am looking forward for their premium steak again. Yum!
